DJ Software Programs: Best DJ Solutions with Pro Quality

DJ software may be your answer if you don't have the money to spend on DJ equipment but you do own a fancy computer.

You can become a DJ in the digital world with a little time and a little creativity. Creating DJ music on your pc can be fun.

Software for DJs is abundant. There are so many to choose from it's hard to tell who's who and each one has a specific purpose. Depending on your application, you can DJ using a laptop with Final Scratch, or create remixes with Cakewalk or master with Sound Forge.

DJ software that is in-expensive could be your answer for recording and mastering that final mix. Read this short article on home recording software tips. It will show you what you need to record and how to choose the right software.

DJ software is not difficult to learn. I find that experimenting works best initially that way you get to learn where everything is and how it works.

After you get to understand how it works you should join a message board where other users post helpful information and documents to help you be more productive.

Virtual DJ is another DJ software program that is in high demand.

Propellerhead Record Recording Software

Propellerhead Record Recording Software

Propellerhead Record software lets you create record-ready channels in an instant, minimizing the steps between idea and actual recording.

Since recording music is all about seizing the moment, capturing a perfect performance—or even nailing that idea before it goes away—requires tools that are ready when you are.

This music recording software is always ready, giving you more time for playing music and less time having to deal with dialog boxes. Simply plug in, breathe out, and you're ready to go.

All the instruments, processors, and effect units used in a song are housed inside the recording software's customizable rack.

Any device created is automatically and logically patched into the rack, but if you're feeling adventurous or need to do some routing of your own, just flip your entire Record rack over and all the cables are all yours.

Your Record rack can be stacked with an infinite number of reverbs, distortion units, delays, dynamic processors, mastering EQs—everything you need to shape and color your sounds. Click and drag effects straight to the rack, or load any of the expertly crafted patches.

To help you arrange your tracks in a smooth, effortless way, Propellerhead's music software comes with a fast and flexible sequencer. Immediate and intuitive, Record's sequencer puts you in control of your arrangements, letting you move and edit parts as you go along.

Propellerhead Record's sequencer also takes care of your MIDI performances, for use with the build in ID-8 instrument or for controlling Reason instrument and devices when Record is paired with Reason.

Every thinkable knob, button, or fader can be automated with ease, and then edited and fine-tuned in the sequencer. Finally, all your sounds will end up in Propellerhead Record's main audio mixer.

This mixing console's sound and signal processing was faithfully modeled after the legendary SSL 9000k analog mixing desk.

Flexible routing, full dynamics, EQ, advanced effects handling, full automation and a 64-bit mix bus gives you that big studio sound right out of your computer. And yes, you do get that master-bus compression.

For guitar and bass players, the recording software comes installed with separate guitar and bass POD units from amp- and cab-simulation experts Line 6, Inc.

With bass and guitar amplifiers available for every single track in your Record project, you are never short of interesting tones and timbres.

As the Line 6 amplifiers are insert effects and don't affect the original instrument signal, you are free to change your amplifier and cabinet settings at any point in time—even after laying down your track.

Additional models can be added to the virtual POD units by connecting a Line 6 interface, including POD Studio, POD X3, and more, to your computer.

To help you complement your recorded material, Record also comes with multi-instrument ID8—a songwriter's toolbox. ID8 ships with a wide palette of sounds usef

He was telling me that the best thing about Fruity Loops is its ability to emulate so many of those famous sounds you hear from old school 70's artists to today's artists.

I asked him how he does it and he told me that he has the package that includes all of the plug-ins.

If you're like me having the ability to create any sound you want for DJ music is a must.

I mentioned Sound Forge by Sonic Foundry. For the price this DJ software is one of the best solutions on the market for editing music and mastering your final mix.

Read my tutorial on Sound Forge here.

Some other dj software you should take a look at.

Rane Serato Scratch Live

Rane Serato Scratch Live

Check out the forums, you'll see that the Serato Scratch Live by Rane is way more reliable and easier to use than earlier digital/vinyl interfaces.

Using regular turntables or CD players, you can scratch and mix files from your Mac or Windows XP computer's CD or hard drive, add in a live mic input for scratching, and even bypass to standard vinyl if you wish.

The Rane Serato's unique control screen gives you unprecedented realtime side-by-side visual command with color-coded frequencies so you can distinguish bass and snare hits for flawless beat matching.

You can even control song selection from the vinyl. The Rane Scratch Live SL 1 interface connects one or two standard vinyl or CD turntables to your computer.

This extremely rugged, portable, high quality, bus-powered USB interface features 2 switchable phono or line inputs, a microphone input, 2 line outputs, and pass thru outputs for the phono/line and mic.

The included 12" vinyl records each have a Serato exclusive control signal which allows Scratch Live to track the motion of the record, simulating the same movement with digital audio.

Due to Serato's proprietary control scheme, the result is a feel and sound indistinguishable from playing vinyl.

As a producer and DJ, the track you finished today can be played on a real turntable tonight. You'll never have to cut a dubplate again!

Final Scratch is very powerful. It's a program that lets the end users play songs from their mp3 play list and mix them with vinyl live. So you can have a gig at the club with your turntables and your laptop and create some very powerful mixes.

Stanton FinalScratch V.2 (MP3 Players)

Stanton Final Scratch Digital/Vinyl Control Interface (MP3 Players)

You're not limited to your record collection anymore. Josh Wink, co-owner of Ovum Records and a DJ out of Philadelphia, PA, uses Final Scratch.

Here's what he had to say about it.

The Traktor mp3 DJ software program is another great product for up and coming DJs. It's not as good as Final Scratch but it is acceptable and fun to use.

The final DJ software comes from Cakewalk . When Cakewalk first introduced its mix program in the 90's I got a copy because it was cheaper than buying DJ equipment.

Steinberg CubaseSX3 MAC/PC (Multi-Track Recording Software)

Back then it was a bit cumbersome and the quality was not that good. So I lost interest in the digital music. What a mistake! If I had of stayed with it who knows how successful I could have become. Ha! Ha!

Cakewalk offers a suite of DJ software programs to choose from. Such as dance music to home recording to remixing. They make a bunch of synth and samplers programs. They have come a long way. Other, more hefty and more expensive, DJ software programs along with Sound Forge are:

Thanks Scott for the headsup on the additional Software.

Most of these companies have a free download trial of their software. I suggest you download them and try them out for your self. Have fun!
