Primer for the Numark DMC2 Software Controller
Hi,
In this newsletter I wanted to give you a primer on the Numark DMC2 Software Controller. I received it as a gift back in July '08 and it has held up well. I am in the middle of doing a video tutorial for you on it and for the first time since doing the video tutorials I will be on the other side of the camera.

Some people don't like Numark products but I am not one of them. I think as long as the product delivers on it's promise then it's ok in my book. If you don't know by now you should know that your DJ equipment is personal and you make it your own. So you can read all of the reviews and opinions (including my own) you want you really have to get you hands on the product and test it out before you commit to it .
I was glad to get my hand on the DMC2. I have to admit that I was skeptical at first about what the DMC 2 could do but after using it and getting to know the CUE software I was convinced that any budding DJ could easily adapt to this somewhat awkward controller. I mean I am just not used to DJing with a controller. I like the feel of my hands on vinyl.
And by the way the DMC is not for traditional DJing obviously. It is more for mobile DJ's who do private parties where scratching is not part of the repertoire.
The construction overall is solid however the face plate on the right LCD popped of when I touched when moving the unit. The buttons are very tactile and the LCD's are bright and big. The buttons are laid out in a useful manner from the cue point buttons to the pitch control buttons and slider.
I have large hands so this design of the DMC2 passed my design test. I would have liked to of had larger buttons for the 1/8, 1/4 note loop section.
Overall the operation of the DMC2 performed well. The CUE software recognized the DMC2 right away after I selected it under the device options in the CUE set up. I'll get into CUE in the next newsletter next month and in the videos I'll be releasing soon. You'll need a membership to iDJOnDemand.com to get the CUE tutorials..
Below is a press release for the Numark DMC2 and a YouTube video to tied you over until I release my own tutorial on the Numark DMC2 and CUE software.
Numark, the world's leading brand of professional DJ equipment and the driving force behind the High-Tech musical revolution, is proud to introduce their new DMC2 Rack Mount DJ Software Controller.
The new DMC2 is Numark's top-of-the-line professional DJ software controller, featuring a ruggedly-constructed metal frame that can be used in a 3U rack-mount setting or as a tabletop unit. With a form factor based on DJ-approved Numark dual scratch-wheel-controlled CD players such as the CDN95 and CDN35, it allows mobile DJs who are comfortable with rack consoles to quickly and easily add the power and versatility of software-based mixing to their arsenal.
The DMC2 is the ultimate hardware choice for any DJ who wants to stay ahead of the competition without a huge learning curve. No assignment of software parameters for the DMC2 is necessary - simply connect the controller to a laptop with a USB cable, enable it in the software's "config" menu, and watch the virtual controls respond to the DMC2's actions. It couldn't be easier. The DMC2's high-speed HID USB 2.0 interface is optimized for the included Numark CUE Lite software, which allows users to mix and scratch audio and video files (including CD+G for karaoke) interchangeably.
Since CUE and other programs take advantage of digital storage and multi-processing muscle while emulating traditional mixing platform interfaces, the DMC2 completes the circle, taking control back from inconvenient mouse or touch-pad mixing. DJs that have used dual consoles for years won't miss a step as they use the DMC2 to make the jump into the software-DJ age.
Offering forward-thinking USB 2.0 compatibility, the DMC2 is a controller that will grow with DJs as they expand their hardware and software options. And with important features like true instant start, one-button song synchronization, an automix button for quick mixes, a wide range of looping and cueing options, fader buttons that allow automatic crossfading, Key Lock and more, the DMC2 gives you the technical options you need to maximize your mixes.
With a bright, backlit display, DJs can easily see information for the songs they are controlling, with song title, BPM and time displays. All control knobs and buttons are rubberized, illuminated and easy to manipulate.
