AKG C5 and D5
AKG have announced two new high-performance wireless microphones to support the live and installed sound markets. Wireless versions of the outstanding C5 and D5 microphones have been developed through collaboration with AKG's successful WMS 4000 wireless system, providing vocalists, musicians and presenters, say AKG, with the most versatile and high-performance vocal microphones on the market.
Klaus Hitzenberger, Product Marketing Manager, AKG Acoustics GmbH, told us, “Our initial January launch of the ultra-durable high-quality C5 and D5 wired microphones was the direct result of an extensive market research project conducted to address the specific needs of vocalists. With the launch of the C5 and D5 wireless mics, we are further expanding the applications of this superior transducer technology.”

The new C5 and D5 wireless microphones offer two interchangeable microphone heads for the HT 4000 handheld unit, as part of the WMS 4000 wireless system: the C5 WL1 condenser vocal microphone and D5 WL1 dynamic vocal microphone. AKG say that both establish new quality and durability standards with excellent wireless performance for professional musicians.
The C5 condenser microphone and D5 dynamic microphone each feature a dent-resistant spring steel elastic wire mesh cap for safe protection of the capsule element, as well as an integrated shock absorber system for compensation of handling noise. Additionally, the D5 features Laminate Varimotion diaphragm technology to deliver a smooth and controlled frequency response and the highest gain before feedback.
Offering 30Mhz wide UHF band with up to 1200 selectable frequencies, the WMS 4000 wireless system consists of the SR 4000 receiver, HT 4000 handheld transmitter and PT 4000 bodypack transmitter. AKG tell us that the easy-to-use WMS 4000 wireless system is feature-packed with backlit display, battery life indicator, silent mode, environment scan, auto setup frequency search and rehearsal functions. Additionally, the fully HiQnet-compatible WMS 4000 features a very robust UHF transmission.
