How Good Is The Gemini XL-500II?

Pros: Since this was my second pair of turntables, and my first were a set of belt-driven tables... at the time they definitely felt like a vast improvement. Being Direct drive was a big plus. +/- 10% pitch adjust gives a little more leeway for mixing those tracks with extreme tempo differences.

Cons: Where to start... Tone arm is very flimsy. Once you get into advance scratch techniques, and move to faster scratches... it is very hard to keep the needle from jumping. The platter is very light. Feels like a toy. When you try to adjust the beats during matching them... the platter will literally stop if you touch it too hard. Very slow pick-up, near impossible to do forward cuts, unless you are creating the forward movement with your record hand.
If you get anywhere near 0 on the pitch, it doesn't hold the speed, and will sometimes feel sound wobbly, like you are rubbing the platter. Slow start and brake speeds... when you press the stop button, it actually has a mechanism inside that rubs against the platter to stop it. It sounds terrible.
Additional Comments: If you are currently on belt-driven turntables, and this is all you can afford, then they will be a good upgrade for you. Otherwise, do not buy them. You could always just save up for some Technics ... cause you will have to get them sooner or later anyway, and this will just be one more pair of turntables you paid for and have to sell at a lower price.
