Comparing the Gemini TT03
QUESTION:
I'm about to buy my first decks. I am on a pretty tight budget but don't want to
buy crap. I am interested in three decks:
Gemini TT03
Stanton T80
Numark TT200
No where seems to offer a review for the Gemini. The spec looks on a par with
the other two and it has the highest torque (2.2 kg/cm). Yet it is the cheapest
of the three? I would appreciate it if you could tell me the pro's and con's of each deck.
Chris.

ANSWER:
If you are strickly looking for a home use deck then the Gemini TT03 is on par for the price. It has all of teh standard features to mix and scratch but I am not sure about durability. Historically Gemini makes an inferior product because the products are made from cheaper parts hence the low price.
I saw this deck at the International DJ Expo this past summer and it I did not expect it to have the get up and go from the direct drive motor. That was the most impressive part. The other features are standard nowadays with the pitch lock.
Basically they took the power of the motor from the Technics SL1200 and the other features such as the detachable RCA & ground cables, removable ultra-bright LED target light. This seems to be the way Gemini works. They kind of "Frankenstein" their DJ equipment for lack of a better word. But they have gotten better with quality.
The TT200 like you said is on par with the Gemini TT03. The major difference is that you have the dual start/stop buttons and the optional interchangable tonearm. Other than that it come to down to the look and feel. The other features such as the pitch lock and removable ultra-bright LED target light are come on both decks. Also this deck doesn't have a cover so the rubber mat will get loaded with dust and dirt which can eventually get into your motor. You have to protect your investment.
But my choice is the T80 hands down. It does have a dust cover. It also has a higher resale value and it has digital features such as the S/PDIF out and key lock. Like the TT200 it has dual start/stop buttons. I tested this one out at the International DJ Expo this summer and I liked the how it handled. No skipping at all. It was nice and smooth on the cues and back spins with the 500B cartidges. I chose this one because of the digital features. A deck at this price with digital features allows you to use a mixer with digtial features.
You might end up spending more with if you buy the other decks becuase they don't come with cartridges. But what ever deck you choose make sure it fits your personality. If you can afford to spend a little more on decks and less on a mixer then do that. Decks last longer than mixers so you should invest more there. But a modest mixer without the frills now and then upgrade later.
