Digital Audio Recorders Donated to Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh Radio Studios
Edison, NJ – May 9, 2007: iKEY-Audio, a part of GCI Technologies, is proud to announce its donation of 16 iKEY Plus Professional Portable USB Recorders to SLB Radio Productions Inc. for production and distribution of GirlTalk, the new radio show of the Girls, Math & Science Partnership (GMSP), a program of Carnegie Science Center, and The Saturday Light Brigade, an award-winning public radio program produced by SLB Radio Productions and originating from the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.
Larry Berger, executive director of The Saturday Light Brigade, along with his team of seasoned broadcasters and GirlTalk participants will utilize the iKEY Plus, the definitive, yet simple digital audio tool to efficiently record the girls’ audio interviews as digital audio files and convert them into a series of radio broadcasts and podcasts, which will be available for download from www.braincake.org, www.slbradio.org and DragonFly TV, a popular PBS teen science show that provided underwriting for the project.
An experienced radio professional of 30 years, Berger noted that "after evaluating a number of options, we found that the iKEY Plus had the right combination of features, quality and price for this application. We are grateful to GCI Technologies for allowing us to expose these girls to digital field recording and have additional plans for similar projects involving collection of oral history and community interviews."
"The iKEY Plus is the perfect tool to make digital recording and podcasting easy for everyone, not just kids," exclaims GCI Technologies Marketing Manager Peter Wohelski. "We’re proud to be introducing this next generation of young broadcasters to the world of digital recording and podcasting through this donation."
GirlTalk, which will debut on-air in summer 2007 following a red carpet premier party at the Carnegie Science Center, connects girls ranging from ages 11-15 with emerging and established women scientists throughout the Pittsburgh region in the science, math, engineering and technology fields. Carnegie Science Center is Pittsburgh’s premier science exploration destination and reaches more than 700,000 people annually through its hands-on exhibits, camps, classes and off-site education programs.
The Saturday Light Brigade program airs from 6 am – noon Eastern on Saturday mornings and can be heard throughout Western Pennsylvania on 88.3 WRCT-FM, 1550 WLFP-AM and 90.1 WIUP-FM. Airing since 1978, this program features live music from regional and national musicians, on-air telephone calls from kids and adults and participatory puzzles.
