Mixxx DJ Software Review - A Nice DJ Software Program That Is Getting Better

Well I had a chance to check out the Mixxx DJ software. For getting the basics right such as mixer faders, meters, eq, effects and sync feature along with some other stuff I say they are on the right track. As far as accuracy with mixing it could use some help.

I found it a bit arduous in the fact that it took me longer to get a mix on beat even with the sync button than I expected and when the sync button is selected there is no indication that it has been selected so I couldn't tell which mode I was in. It was this way for some of the other buttons as well.

However, it didn't take long for me to figure it all out. I was mixing within 5 minutes and it sounded good!

I felt that the pitch was pretty accurate but in today's world my computer DJ's a pitch lock feature is a must. For the purest not so much. This is the one feature I would have liked to see in this latest release.

There is no drag and drop feature for the songs in your library. You have to double click the song from the library. Not a nuisance but it would be nice to do both. You can set up your library to show in the list window by going to Options > Preferences > Library and Playlist. That way you don't have to keep going to the File menu and choosing your song.

The interface has a long way to go in terms of style and function and it could use a full screen mode that is true full screen.

Overall it's still a work in progress so there is room for growth. If you want to start mixing from your PC or Mac then this is a nice place to start. Did I mention it's free and you can download it right off this page.
