Numark DJ equipment in recent years has made a lasting impression upon me. With their innovative style and look it appears as though their entire DJ equipment product line went through a massive overhaul.

Numark must have swiped a chapter from the Macintosh designers group because they've found a way to fit form with functionality.

Years ago Numark did not impress me. I was a Technics Turntable and Vestax mixers DJ. But as I started to use a variety of DJ equipment I began to see the advantages some DJ equipment had over others simply by how well one functioned.

In this review I'll look at some of the more impressive Numark DJ equipment.

Numark CDX

Numark CDX Direct Drive CD Turntable

The one thing about Numark and their design team is that they've been able to make functionality fun and bold. The Numark CDX does just that. Hear are some of the key features that can enhance any DJ's skills.

- Ultra-high torque (5.0 kgf/cm) direct drive motor - Full size 12" aluminum platter with vinyl record control - Slot-load CD transport with CDR compatibility - Integrated DSP effects include sonar, slide, echo, filter, chop, auto-pan, and auto-dissemination - Multiple scratch modes for tricks and effects - Seamless loop with smart loop, live trim, and beat shifting - Built-in Beatkeeper with auto-synchronization of loops, effects, and MIDI devices

- This is a nice integration of vinyl feel with digital technology. Denon has a similar product but they don't use a 12 inch platter.

Numark TT500 Turntable

The Numark TT500 Turntable is a first-class turntable for the professional DJ who demands uncompromised quality construction while not requiring digital implementation. The ultrahigh torque (5.0 kgf/cm) quartz-controlled direct drive motor is the ultimate in quiet reliability. The interchangeable aluminum tone arm system includes both straight and S-shaped tone arms. The Numark TT500 is highly responsive with instant reverse and adjustable start and brake speeds. Powder-coated steel top, rubberized base. Anti-drag aluminum platter reduces excess rotating friction. User-replaceable pitch fader. Removable aluminum super-bright LED target light and strobe. Precise cue, height, and anti-skate adjustments. ±8, 10, 20 and 50% selectable pitch ranges. Turntable speeds include 33, 45, and 78rpm, plus reverse.

The TT500 Professional Turntable is equivalent to the Technics 1200 but with more torque. It has the same functionality but holds off on the glitz and glamour of it sibling, the TTX.

It's a straight up battle turntable with the straight tone arm or a club mixer with the S shape tone arm. This is the key feature that sets the TT500 apart from the rest of the pack. You basically get two turntables for the price of one so to speak. Another Numark DJ equipment first.

Numark Matrix 3 Mixer

Numark Matrix 3K Fusion Series DJ Mixer

The Matrix 3 was designed for just about any DJ style. Mold of form and function was captured in this mixer. The feel of the faders in your fingers moving across the smooth steel face plate makes mixing that much more enjoyable.

The face plate is also removable that makes replacing worn out faders extremely easy. Hopefully when you get yours you won't burn them out too fast because you'll be mixing for days on end.

Here are some additional features you should know about.

Inputs: 3 phono, 6 line, 1 mic input w/ EQ

- Outputs: master balanced, zone, record, fader start, PFL sampler send

- extra-wide knob, hamster switch, action light, fader start

- Process looping w/ blend control - -40 dB KILLS for bass, middle, and treble

- long-life input faders, 3-band rotary -30dB EQ cuts, gain, panning, 8-position input toggles, PFL meters

- 1/4" and 1/8" headphone jacks

This Numark DJ equipment has given Numark a new beginning, a rush revival if you will. I am glad to see that there is rigorous completion among the DJ equipment manufacturers as there is among the DJs themselves.
