Scratch Live Introduction by Ben Ellis

A few months back I had the pleasure of conversing with a gentleman who was interested in doing a review of Serato Scratch Live and posting it on this web site. His name is Nelson Rodriguez. We continued to talk via email over the course of months about his progress until he was ready to release his final review.

When I read his review of Scratch Live I was amazed at the attention to detail and the level of description he put in his review. This is not your run of the mill review. This is 12 pages of pure delight to read with photos. I am pleased to invite you to a truely special review by free lance writer for The-DJ-Equipment-Guide.com, Nelson Rodriguez, on Serato Scratch Live.

You can download the entire review at the end of this intro by Nelson Rodriguez.

Up Close and Personal with Scratch Live
By Nelson Rodriguez

I started spinning records at the age of 11 in 1979 back in Brooklyn, NY. I kept up with the changes of the equipments until the evolving of the CD decks. I did not want to accept that the CD decks were on the verge of taking over the turntables. Year after year I tried to keep the hope alive just until last year 2007 when I started to look into the CD Decks. Every time I would price them out I would gag. I couldn't justify spending over $1200 per CD deck just to be able to play my digital music. So I decided to wait until I heard about this technology. My only words were: "could this be the answer to my prayers, Will this product do the trick?" I just couldn't stand the thought of letting go of my Technics 1200's. The Technics 1200's are immortal. They are built to last forever; this is the reason I don't want to part from them. I am sure there are hundreds of thousands of DJ's out in this world that feel the same way I do.

Reviewing this product will help me determine if the turntables are really dead or if the turntables can be re-born again and last another decade. Reading all the hype about this type of technology makes it seem like this is the product that will do the job. We will see if Rane can deliver the punch.

Rane is known to produce high quality audio mixers for the DJ's enthusiast. I have never used any of there products until now.

Serato Scratch Live will be the product that I will be reviewing.

I have read about this technology and couldn't bring myself to believe that you can actually play digital music thru your turntables without any lag time. The only way I was able to convince myself was to get my hands on this product and test it out for myself.

This review was supposed to have been a head to head comparison between Native Instruments Traktor Scratch and Rane Serato Scratch Live. After a few e-mails to Native Instruments I finally received a response that they are unable to ship out any loaners at this time due to shortage.

To bad; I really wanted to see how Native Instruments stacked up against Scratch Live. Maybe in the near future I can get a kit from another source to write a review on N.I Tracktor Scratch. For now this will be a review on Rane Serato Scratch Live.

I would like to thank George Sheppard CEO & President of Rane and Dean Standing Director of Sales for supplying me a complete kit of Serato Scratch Live for this review. I was impressed hearing how excited Mr. Standing and Mr. Sheppard are about this product. Standing behind there products seems to be something they truly believe in. It's very rare knowing that there are still companies out there truly catering to the consumers and not the pockets of the executives. Hats off to Mr. Standing and Mr. Sheppard!
