DJ Equipment Reviews of Stanton DJ Equipment

Stanton DJ equipment has always been consistently moving forward. Slow, is steady, is fast as the saying goes. DJs have always been able to rely on the power of Stanton.

Stanton just like Technics and Vestax has a strong background in DJ equipment so it's no puzzle that they have been able to proudly walk with their chest out and chin up.

In this review I'll be taking a look at three items made by Stanton. The first one is the SA-3 mixer, second is the STR8-150 Turntable and third is the Pro DJ 3000 headphones.

Stanton SA-3 Scratch Mixer

Stanton SA-3 2-Channel Scratch Mixer

Stanton SA-3 2-Channel Scratch Mixer

The Stanton SA-3 Scratch Mixer is flat out the best mixer in its class for the price at $199 average. Its clean lines and fader placement make it inviting and easy to use. The learning curve is short to none as you begin to experiment with its features.

Having a 3 band EQ on each channel sets this mixer apart from its direct competitors. You'll be able to have cleaner cuts and crisper scratches as you cut the low frequencies. The loud sound coming from the tight construction is impressive and the extra headphone jack with mute button is an added bonus. The mic comes ready with a mute button and it helps in leaving the mic volume alone for the entire set. You can also mute the balanced master output as well.

On this Stanton DJ equipment the curve adjustment on all three faders is precise and makes it easy to switch from those hard cuts to those smooth mixes.

Some additional features to note are its classic fader and knob design for a clean look and feel, and the cue section with cue pan and cue select. Very hand for mixing.

Overall this Stanton SA-3 Scratch Mixer get my vote as the best sleeper in its class. To get more information on this mixer click on the product link below.

Stanton STR8-150 Digital Turntable

Stanton STR8-150 Digital Turntable

Stanton STR8-150 Digital Turntable

I decided to take another look at this special turntable made by Stanton because they featured it on their web site. I was going to look at the ST-150 which is the ‘S' curve tone model but since I put the SA-3 mixer in this review I though it only made sense to keep it in the Battle DJ theme. But the SA-3 mixer is so versatile is can be used in the club as well.

Like most Stanton DJ equipment the Stanton STR1-150 is built to the highest specification you can get in a DJ turntable. It comes with the highest rated torque on the market. This enables then turntable to offer more control for the DJ when back cueing and doing tricks.

It features a line and phono output as well as an S/DPIF output for digital recording. Its rock solid construction offers supreme stability and in comes in weighing at a hefty 36 pounds. Try knocking that puppy of the table. It's just won't happen!

All of the usual features you find on a Technics SL-1200MK2 are on the STR8-150. The pith is to the far right the platter light and start/stop button to the left. But this turntable has a master power switch in the rear. This turntable comes with all cables needed to get started right away and a special treat in the 680HP cartridge.

It's been reported that when you're hooking up the table to your mixer and the two devices are plugged into different outlets you might get an ugly hum. To fix it make sure you plug both the mixer and the turntable into the same outlet, hence the need for a ground wire which this model comes without.

Other features to note on this Stanton DJ equipment are the dual start stop button the key correction, pitch button controls and reverse. The look and feel of the steel clad graphite enamel draws you in as you put your hand on the platter.

You'll also notice as you use this fine piece of Stanton DJ equipment that the platters construction in conjunction with the 4.5kg per centimeter of torque helps reduce skipping. This is another plus from the research and development team at Stanton.

Finally we come to the Stanton DJ Pro 3000 Headphones.

Stanton DJ Pro 3000 Headphones

Stanton DJ Pro 3000 Headphones

You can't mix unless you have headphones and Stanton believes that these pair will do you just fine.

As with all headphones there are a few things that a DJ needs to consider when buying headphones:

1. Design

2. Durability

3. Comfortability

4. Quality

5. Price

When it comes to the DJ Pro 3000 headphones by Stanton 4 out of 5 is near perfect.

The design of these headphones is top notch. The head rest is wide and padded. The ear cups are big and soft and cradle your ear like a baby in its mother's arms. The spring loaded ear cups allow the DJ easy one ear usage without fumbling around.

Some cool features are the detachable cord, passive high pass and low pass filters and the LEDs on the ear cup that blinks in time with the music.

The tight construction of the DJ Pro 3000 headphones are of sturdy materials that won't fail under normal use. You'll notice minimal ear fatigue due to great comfort as it rests on your head. The 50mm drivers hold a wide frequency response at 16 – 22kHz. You'll also notice that 9 foot plus cord will come in handy as you twist and turn digging in the crates for your next mix. This is some great Stanton DJ equipment

Sometimes Stanton DJ equipment can be a bit over priced in my opinion. The price of these headphones is well over $100 and if it's not a studio grade headphone I generally tell people not to spend more than $100. Coming in at $129 a pair I guess you can make an exception to the rule and have people stare at you as your headphones blink to the beat. You want to be the center of attention don't you?

The Stanton DJ Pro 3000 Headphones are the newest addition to Stanton's line of high-quality stereo headphones. With the same great features as previous Stanton headphones plus a few new additions, the DJ Pro 3000 definitely is in a class of its own. With swivel and folding capabilities, the Stanton DJ Pro 3000 also includes high pass and low pass filters, detachable cord, and cool blue LEDS. With this array of features, its sexy new look, and an affordable price, it is destined to rise to stardom in the DJ world.
